14 June: World Blood Donor Day, is celebrated every year on 14 June. Many people are afraid of donating blood even though they are healthy because they have many misconceptions related to it. Many people lose their lives due to a lack of blood. This should not happen to anyone, that is why on 14th June, Blood Donation Day is celebrated. The purpose of celebrating this day is to encourage blood donation and to clear the misconceptions related to it. Blood donation is also called Mahadan. 2. An average person has 10 units (5-6 liters) of blood in his body.

5. Only 7 percent of the people in India have blood group ‘O negative’.

6. ‘O negative’ blood group is called universal donor, it can be given to a person of any blood group.

7. In times of emergency like when a newborn child or other needs blood and his blood group is not known, then ‘O negative’ blood can be given to him.

11. If ever after donating blood you have dizziness, sweating, weight loss or any other type of problem that persist for a long time, then you should not donate blood.

12. Men can donate blood regularly at an interval of 3 months and women 4 months.

13. Not everyone can donate blood. You can donate blood only if you are healthy, do not have any kind of fever or illness.
