Mahabharat Sabha Parv Major events of the conference-
In the council, Mayasur constructed the assembly hall for Yudhishthira, the description of different meetings of the Lokpal, the resolution to rule Yudhishthira, the story of Jarasandha and his slaughter, the Digvijay Yatra of the four Pandavas, etc. for Rajasuya, Rajasuya Yajna, Shishupalavadh, Dyutkrida, the defeat of Yudhishthira and the exodus of the Pandavas are described.
My demon was involved in the construction of the assembly hall. In the auspicious time, the foundation of the meeting hall was laid and gradually the assembly hall was prepared which was made of crystal stones. This building was shining like glass. Maharaj Yudhishthira occupied the throne in this building. (Sabha Parv)
After some time Maharishi Narada came to the assembly hall. He advised Yudhishthira to perform the Rajasuya Yajna. Yudhishthira summoned Krishna and asked about the Rajasuya Yajna.
Shri Krishna said that the biggest obstacle in Rajasuya Yajna is Magadh King Jarasandha because he has kept many kings captive and he is very cruel. For the purpose of defeating Jarasandha, Krishna, with Arjuna and Bhima, reached the assembly of Jarasandha, disguised as a Brahmin. Jarasandha treated him as a Brahmin, but Bhima challenged him to a duel. Bhima and Jarasandha fought for thirteen days. On the fourteenth day, Jarasandha looked somewhat tired, then Bhima caught him and ripped his body. Sri Krishna freed all the captive kings from the prison of Jarasandha and invited Yudhishthira to join the Rajasuya Yajna and placed Jarasandha’s son Sahadeva on the throne of Magadha.
Bhima, Arjuna, Nakula, and Sahadeva went in all four directions and forced all the kings to accept Yudhishthira’s submission. The king of every country came to join the yagna. Bhishma and Drona were entrusted with the task of observing the ritual of Yajna and accepting the gifts of kings to Duryodhana. Sri Krishna himself accepted the task of washing the feet of Brahmins.(Sabha Parv)
In the Yajna, Bhishma suggested the name of Shri Krishna on who should be worshiped, who should be welcomed. Sahadev started washing Shri Krishna’s feet. This was not seen by Chediraj Shishupala and he started abusing Bhishma and Krishna. Krishna kept listening to his abuses in a calm manner. Shishupala was the son of Krishna’s aunt. Krishna promised his aunt that he would forgive Shishupala’s hundred crimes. When Shishupala had given a hundred cases of abuse, Shri Krishna started Sudarshan Chakra and Shishupala’s head was cut and fell on the ground. The son of Shishupala was given the throne of the Chedi kingdom. Yudhishthira’s yajna was completed.
Duryodhana was looking at Yudhishthira’s wonderful assembly hall with Shakuni. He reached a place where the site also looked watery. Duryodhana started covering his clothes. Draupadi laughed seeing this. There was a transparent glass at some distance. Duryodhana’s head hit the mirror. Seeing Bhima standing there, she laughed. Water was far ahead, but Duryodhana understood the floor and walked away. His clothes got wet. Everyone laughed. Duryodhana was inundated at his insult and came to Hastinapur, seeking leave from Duryodhana.(Sabha Parv)
Duryodhana wanted to avenge his insults to the Pandavas. Shakuni explained to Duryodhana that it is difficult to win in direct war with the Pandavas, so they can be conquered by deceit. At Shakuni’s behest, a meeting hall was also built in Hastinapur and Yudhishthira was called to gamble. Shakuni threw more dice on behalf of Duryodhana. Shakuni was very proficient in gambling. Yudhishthira lost first the gems, then the gold, the silver, the horses, the chariots, the servants, the whole army, his kingdom, and then all four of his brothers, now I have nothing to stake. Shakuni said, now you have your wife Draupadi. If you win this time, whatever you have lost so far will be returned. Yudhishthira also put Draupadi at stake and he also lost to Draupadi.
Insult to Draupadi
The happiness of the Kauravas was no longer there. At the behest of Duryodhana, Dushasan dragged Draupadi’s hair and brought it to the meeting hall. Duryodhana said that Draupadi is now our maid. Bhima could not bear the insult of Draupadi. He vowed that I would uproot the hands with which Dushasan pulled Draupadi’s hair. Duryodhana patted his thigh and started pointing at Draupadi to sit on it. Bhima also vowed to break Duryodhana’s thigh. At the behest of Duryodhana, Dushasan began to undress Draupadi. Draupadi remembered Krishna in the hour of crisis. He prayed to Krishna to save his honor. A miracle happened in the assembly. As Dushasan dragged Draupadi’s clothes, the clothes also grew. Dushasan sat tired while pulling clothes. Bhima vowed that he would not leave the world and go to Pitrilok until Dushasan’s chest would rip and quench his thirst with his hot blood. The blind Dhritarashtra was sitting and thinking that whatever happened, it would cause his family to be killed. He consoled Draupadi by calling. Asked Yudhishthira to forget Duryodhana’s audacity and returned everything to him.
Thirteen years of exile to Dutekrida and Pandavas again
Duryodhana called the Pandavas to gamble again and this time laid the condition that the one who lost in gambling would spend thirteen years in the forest with his brothers, with the last year going into exile. This time also Shakuni threw the dice on behalf of DuryodhanaWas defeated Yudhishthira. As per the condition, Yudhishthira was compelled to go to exile for thirteen years and the kingdom too passed from his hand.
