Mandodari-Lament, Ravan’s funeral

First Lord Krishna went to Duryodhana, the supreme anger, as the messenger. He said to King Duryodhana, the lord of eleven Akshauhini army- “Rajan! Give half the kingdom to Yudhishthira or surrender him to five villages; else fight with him.”

Listening to Shri Krishna, Duryodhana said- “I will not even give them land equal to the tip of a needle; yes, I will definitely fight them.” Having said this, he was determined to take Lord Krishna captive. At that time, Lord Shri Krishna frightened Duryodhana in the Rajya Sabha by having a vision of his supreme evil form. Vidur then took him to his house and worshiped the Lord. He then returned to Yudhishthira and said- “Maharaj! You fight with Duryodhana.”

Nobles of both armies
Before the war, the Pandavas shifted their army to the western region of Kurukshetra on the banks of the Hiranyavati River near the Samantra Panchak Tirtha, situated on the southern bank of the Saraswati River. The Kauravas made their stay in a flat plane in the eastern part of Kurukshetra at a distance of some plan from there.

The camps on both sides had good arrangements for food and treatment of the wounded. Elephants, horses, and chariots had different arrangements. Each of the thousands of camps housed abundant food items, weapons, instruments, and many medical and artisan salaries.

For the war between the two armies, 5 plans = 40 km. The circle was abandoned.

The maharathis who fought on behalf of the Kauravas were- Bhishma, Dronacharya, Kripacharya, Karna, Ashwatthama, Madernaresh Shalya, Bhurishrava, Alambush, Kritavarma, Kalingaraja Shrutayudha, Shakuni, Jayadratha, Vind-Anuvind, Kambojaraja Sudakshin, Brihadbal, Duryodhana, his brother 99.

While the five sons of Bhima, Nakula, Sahadeva, Arjuna, Yudhishthira, Draupadi, Satyaki, Uttamauja, Virat, Drupada, Dhritadyumna, Abhimanyu, Pandyaraja, Ghatotkacha, Shikhandi, Yuyutsu, Kuntibhoja, Shayabya, Anuparaja were the chiefs of the Pandavas. .

Rules of war

On the advice of Pitamah Bhishma, both the parties gathered and made some rules of war. His rules were-

Everyday war will take place from sunrise to sunset. There will be no war after sunset.
After the end of the war, everyone will behave in love except for deceit.
The warrior will fight the warrior, the elephant rider will fight with the elephant and on foot.
Only one heroic will battle with another hero.
Weapons and weapons will not be attacked by those fleeing from fear or taking shelter.
No weapon will be taken on the hero who will be unarmed.
No weapon will be used by those who serve as servants in war.

The armies of Yudhishthira and Duryodhana went to the Kurukshetra field. In his opposition, Arjuna retired from the war after seeing the elders and relatives of Pitamah Bhishma and Acharya Drona.

Then Lord Krishna preached the Gita to him and said to him – “Partha! Bhishma etc. Gurujanas are not worthy of mourning. The body of man is perishable, but the soul is never destroyed. This soul is Parabrahma. ‘I am Brahman’, In this way, you understand the soul. Follow Kshatradharma by taking shelter of Karmayoga, in the same sense of accomplishment and imperfection.
At the behest of Shri Krishna, Arjuna swung into battle. Everyone, including Shri Krishna and Arjuna, made conch shells and the war started. The first father in Duryodhana’s army was Bhishma Senapati. The commander of the Pandavas was Shikhandi. Heavy war broke out in both of them. The warriors of the Kaurava side including Bhishma started attacking the Pandava side soldiers in that war and the brave Kaurava soldiers of the Pandava side like Shikhandi started targeting their arrows. That war between the Kaurava and Pandava forces looked like a war of devasur. The war seemed very pleasing to the gods who stood and watched in the sky. Bhishma fought for ten days and killed most of the Pandava army with his arrows.
